President’s Message

Welcome to the Chicago Chapter of Women’s Energy Network!

It’s so exciting to be entering our seventh year as a chapter of this global industry organization. It’s certainly no secret that the past couple of years have presented everyone with the challenges of living and working during a pandemic. Yet, despite everything, our Board has remained committed and focused on delivering value to our members. We are appreciative that our members have not only adapted to, but also embraced our shift in programming.

The Chicago chapter of Women’s Energy Network is part of a network of 22 Chapters across the United States and Mexico, that has been operating for over 25 years. We are very proud of how we have grown the Chicago Chapter, now comprised of over 20 sponsor companies, 300+ members, and a strong Board of 28 directors, chairs and committee members. Our Chapter is proud of the diversity of our members, representing a broad range of companies across the energy industry with women at all stages of their career. We believe that our organization can be a powerful vehicle to drive transformative change across the energy industry and we are committed to foster change through our partnerships, programming, and initiatives.

As we prepare for the new year, I would like to take a moment to highlight the rich programming that we were able to bring to our members in 2021.
We had another phenomenal year with our mentoring program, with 30+ participants! We continue to receive great feedback from both mentors and mentees on their experience with our mentorship circles, free coaching opportunities, and networking events. We also hosted a virtual speed mentoring event for local university engineering students focused on interviewing, job searching, and transitioning from school to the job force.
Our members have really embraced the flexibility that virtual programming offers. Professional Development topics this year included a 3-part series on the “Journey of the Digital Grid”,  and a 2-part series on “Managing Carbon, Growing Economies.”
We know there’s value in networking to build and expand our professional networks, so we took time to socialize, de-stress and have some fun with themed virtual happy hours, a virtual DIY floral arrangement workshop, an in-person event at Topgolf, and our virtual holiday mixer, which included a DIY wreathmaking workshop.
Remaining committed to the Chicagoland communities we serve, we participated in another successful Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build, with 16 member volunteers constructing two homes in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood, and raising over $7,000 for Habitat for Humanity! We also developed new partnerships with Green Era, an organization that creates sustainable communities by supporting local food production, and Calculated Genius, an organization that introduces underrepresented youth to the STEM field.
We were excited to kick off our Ambassador program, which is a member engagement initiative to foster awareness and to encourage participation and value creation for WEN Chicago.

Overall, it was a successful 2021! As we look ahead to 2022, we remain committed to our mission –  WEN Chicago is the leading organization that fosters women’s personal and professional development to transform the energy indursty. We create value in and for our members through networking, education, mentorship, and community engagement. We are excited for the new year, as we continue to emerge from the pandemic more resilient and motivated to connect with our members.

I want to thank you for your commitment and support of the Chicago Chapter of Women’s Energy Network. I wish you a happy and healthy 2022!
