The WEN Colorado Chapter is proud to support not only women currently working in all sectors of the energy industry, but also young women interested in pursuing future energy careers.
Kelly de la Torre Scholarship Fund
The Women’s Energy Network of Colorado Kelly de la Torre Scholarship Fund was established in memory of former founding member of Women In Energy friend, Kelly de la Torre. Kelly was a prominent professional in Colorado focused on utilizing scientific innovation to advance the energy industry. Prior to practicing law, she worked as a research fellow in the Fuel Sciences Division at Sandia National Labs. As a practicing attorney, she facilitated all aspects of the development and commercialization of new energy technologies, and had a passion for providing access to affordable energy in developing nations as well. Kelly was a leader in helping women advance in the energy industry, dedicated to making the world a better place through outreach and education, and she firmly believed that fostering scientific innovation at a young age would inspire and empower children to pursue a meaningful career in science and technology.”
The Colorado Chapter of the Women's Energy Network is dedicated to developing future talent. Therefore the chapter has established its annual scholarship. As of December 31, 2021, the Colorado Chapter awarded $15,000 in scholarship funding to students in Colorado. The scholarships are awarded to local, female high schools students to help them achieve their undergraduate degrees. These scholarship funds give students the financial means to pay for school while cultivating and developing our future energy workforce at the same time.
Congratulations to our past scholarship recipients, from left to right, Faith Lee Brendefur (2019), Megan Maley (2019), Izzy Richie (2020), Makenna Turner (2020), Erin Kelly (2021) and Neve Schneider (2021).
