Calling all Book Lovers!
In honor of World Book Day on April 23rd, WEN Greater Pittsburgh launched a new Book Club that provides members an opportunity to read together and share their thoughts on a new book each month. The book of the month will be voted on by the group and questions/topics for discussion will be posted online. WEN also plans to moderate a monthly Zoom meeting for those who would like to discuss the book in more detail. If you love reading as much as we do, we hope you will join us as we kick-off this exciting new adventure!
The current book selection includes:
1. The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict
2. Fleishman is in Trouble by Taffy Brodesser-Akner
3. Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg
4. Inferior: How Science Got Women Wrong - and the New Research that’s Rewriting the Story by Angela Saini
Place your VOTE now and the winning book will be announced on Thursday, May 7th. We look forward to reading together!
Staying Connected with WEN
With the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, WEN Greater Pittsburgh is looking at new ways to stay connected with its members. In April, WEN Greater Pittsburgh hosted two virtual events – WEN Table: Finding Your Personal Balance Webinar and Wellness with WEN: How to Stay Active and Healthy While Social Distancing.
The WEN Table event focused on an open discussion of various topics including how to build a solid support system, staying on track to meet one’s personal and professional goals, and how to remain successful while working remotely during COVID-19.
The Wellness with WEN event was the second in a series of events aimed at promoting the physical, emotional and financial well-being of WEN members. Participants learned nutrition tips and tricks and did a 30-minute Barre Blend class virtually hosted by Beachbody Coach Tara Meek, National President Elect, and Bridget Johnson, WEN Greater Pittsburgh Board Member. WEN Greater Pittsburgh will be hosting a virtual Wellness with WEN: Financial Wellness event next month on May 6, 2020. Sign up here!
Shake it with WEN!
On January 23rd WEN Greater Pittsburgh held a sold-out networking event at Quantum Spirits, a local craft distillery. Members networked while touring the distillery and learning how to craft specialized cocktails during a hands-on mixology class. This is the first in a series of “Shake it with WEN!” events designed to bring members together for an evening of mixing and mingling. WEN Greater Pittsburgh would like to thank the event sponsor, Steptoe & Johnson, PLLC, for helping to organize such a fun event. Cheers!
Cycling into the New Year with WEN!
On January 9th WEN Greater Pittsburgh hosted a unique networking event at 6ycle, a cycle studio with two locations in Pittsburgh. This members-only event allowed participants to jump start 2020 by breaking a sweat during one of 6ycle’s renowned cycling classes and attending a networking session afterward. Thank you to everyone who cycled into the New Year with WEN!

On Tuesday, November 5th, WEN Greater Pittsburgh hosted a “Thankful Dinner” for the participants in this year’s mentoring program. This special event took place at Our Clubhouse in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, which is a meeting place for those touched by cancer, and gave mentors and mentees an opportunity to share their success stories and discuss the importance of mentoring. Beth De Maagd of De Maagd Communications, who chairs the Chapter’s mentoring program, explained: “Mentoring is about being thankful and giving back!” Consistent with this theme, the ladies made holiday hope bracelets and wrote encouraging letters for breast cancer survivors.
