STEM Charity Luncheon
Join the Houston Chapter of the Women’s Energy Network (WEN Houston) at our 2020 Charity Luncheon as we celebrate the legacy of women leaders in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and raise funds to support the next generation of STEM pioneers through scholarships, leadership programs, and mentoring. Together, we can ensure the legacy of women in STEM continues to inspire progressive innovation to improve the living environment, shape communities, and change the way we live.
The Charity Luncheon has been postponed to the Fall of 2020. We will provide a more detailed update as soon as we have more information.
Inspired by STEM . . . Courageous by Choice
Why support the WEN 2020 STEM Charity Luncheon? Did you know:
- Women comprise about 47% of the U.S. labor force
- Only 28% of STEM jobs are held by women
- Women represent roughly 15% of engineering workforce
- Less than 40% of graduates physical sciences are women
The goal of the 2020 WEN Houston Charity Luncheon is to fund 20 scholarships for local female graduating high school seniors pursuing STEM degrees. The $10,000 scholarships will be administered by WEN Houston and individual recipients will be determined by predefined criteria, which will focus on academic success, leadership potential, and financial need.
These scholarships will be given at WEN Houston’s Young Women Energized (YWE) program, which won the World Oil Award for Best Outreach Program in 2019, and offers students, parents and educators a jump start to college and career planning with its signature mentoring circle format and interactive sessions for all attendees.
Hear from a few of our past scholarship recipients:
“The YWE Scholarship has helped my family and me tremendously! It allowed me to help cover a portion of my room and board fees for my freshman year. This not only helped financially, but allowed me to focus on my academics rather than my financial issues this year. I am very grateful for the YWE scholarship.” - Kaylyn Stewart, 2019 YWE Scholarship Recipien
“The YWE Scholarship lessened the financial burden on me as well as my family. This scholarship is allowing me to focus more on my education and not how I will pay for it. I thank God everyday for the blessing of this scholarship.” - Autumn Jackson, 2019 YWE Scholarship Recipient
