WEN North Texas is proud to announce the new and revamped Virtual Leadership Series in lieu of the Annual Leadership Conference. This two-part series themed around “Staying Competitive in the new Decade” will feature influential and charismatic speakers, opportunities to learn about and participate in local initiatives, and a chance to win door prizes.

Panel 1:
Panelists will discuss the Permian Strategic Partnership (PSP), which is a coalition of 19 leading Permian Basin energy companies who joined together to work in partnership with leaders across the region’s communities to address current and future challenges to the responsible development of the vast oil and natural gas resources of the Permian Basin in the states of New Mexico and Texas.

Speaker Bios:

Anna Cheng Catalano

Anna C. Catalano manages an active board portfolio, serving as an independent director for public and private corporations and not-for-profit organizations. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Willis Towers Watson, Kraton Corporation, HollyFrontier Corporation, Frontdoor, Inc., and Appvion. She is a certified Board Leadership Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors, and President of the NACD Texas TriCities Chapter. In the not-for-profit sector, Ms. Catalano is a member of the National Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Association, the Houston Grand Opera, and Co-Founder of The World Innovation Network.

With over 30 years of corporate experience including eighteen years of service on public boards, Ms. Catalano is an expert on the topics of board governance and leadership, and an outspoken champion of women in business. Her extensive career spanned three continents in marketing, retail operations, and international business development at Amoco, and subsequently, BP plc.

Ms. Catalano is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and has been recognized on Fortune’s ranking of “The Most Powerful Women in International Business”, Directors and Boards “Directors to Watch”, and Women Inc “Most Influential Board Directors”. She is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics including board governance, leadership, innovation, and the advancement of women in business. Her thoughts on various aspects of leadership can be found on her blog, www.shades-of-leadership.com.

Tracee Bentley

Tracee Bentley is the CEO of Permian Strategic Partnership, a collaboration between local communities and oil and gas companies operating in the Permian Basin. Tracee’s extensive experience and leadership within the energy industry well-qualify her to lead this first of its kind partnership.

Before joining PSP as its first CEO, Bentley was the Executive Director of the Colorado Petroleum Council, a division of the American Petroleum Institute, which focuses on state and local policy and supporting the development of Colorado’s energy resources, including hydraulic fracturing and energy infrastructure.

Prior to joining the Colorado Petroleum Council in March 2015, Bentley served in several key policy positions including Legislative Director & Senior Advisor on Energy and Agriculture and Deputy Director of the Colorado Energy Office for Governor John Hickenlooper. Before Bentley’s tenure with the Hickenlooper administration, she was a founding Principal of a bi-partisan lobbying firm that focused on energy, natural resource, and agriculture interests. Tracee also served as the Director of National Affairs for the Colorado Farm Bureau where her portfolio included energy, immigration, farm policy, and international trade.

She received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Colorado State University and prior to receiving her bachelor’s, Bentley worked in Washington, DC for U.S. Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell. Tracee and her husband Mike have three children, twin daughters and a son. All three are currently enrolled in college.

Margaret Cooper

Margaret Cooper is General Manager of Corporate Affairs for Chevron North America Exploration and Production Company, working to ensure Chevron continues to be a valued and trusted member of the communities in which it operates. She assumed this role in July 2020.

Prior to this role, she held similar responsibilities overseeing external relations, community engagement, public policy development, issues management and social investments for Chevron’s Mid-Continent Business Unit (MCBU), which operates the company’s Permian and other midcontinent U.S. upstream assets.

Margaret has worked in the energy industry for 20 years, joining Chevron from Anadarko Petroleum in 2006. She has supported upstream projects around the globe, including LNG, deepwater and shale assets. She participated in the formation of key community and industry initiatives, including Chevron’s Appalachia Partnership Initiative, the Center for Sustainable Shale Development in the Marcellus, and more recently, the Permian Strategic Partnership, a unique industry coalition of 19 companies committed to improving the quality of life for Permian communities. She is on the board of New Mexico Oil & Gas Association, past chair of the Texas Oil & Gas Association communications committee, and communications chair and management committee member of the Permian Strategic Partnership.

She received a bachelor degree of music performance from Louisiana State University and a master degree of nonprofit management from University of New Orleans, beginning her career in the nonprofit sector. Margaret lives in Houston, Texas with her husband and their two children.

Susan Spratlen

Susan Spratlen has served as a Vice President of Pioneer Natural Resources in various capacities since 1999. In 2014, she was named Vice President, Permian Affairs, a position created in response to the strategic significance of Permian Basin operations to Pioneer and its commitment to Permian communities and employees.

Based in Midland, Texas, Spratlen engages with community leaders and industry partners working toward building stronger local communities in order to foster the world-class business and social environments that are critical to supporting the Permian Basin’s rapid growth and position as the leading U.S. oil and gas resource.

Spratlen serves on the Management Committee of the Permian Strategic Partnership, the Board of Directors and the executive committee of the Permian Basin Petroleum Association, the Board of Directors of the Midland Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Directors of the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum. She is a member of the business steering committee for the University of Texas Permian Basin.

Spratlen joined Pioneer’s predecessor company, Parker & Parsley Petroleum Company, in 1990. Prior to that, she worked for KPMG. Spratlen graduated Summa Cum Laude from Angelo State University and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. She is a certified public accountant.

Carla Howard

Carla Howard is Senior Vice President and General Tax Counsel at Vistra Corp where she oversees tax planning and operations. Vistra Corp is engaged in the business of power generation and wholesale commodity operations as well as retail gas and electricity sales throughout the US, Canada and Japan. Carla joined TXU in 2004 and settled several multi-billion dollar IRS tax audits and appeals and later worked on the 2007 LBO transaction that converted TXU into EFH. She played an active role in resolving tax issues in the 2014 EFH restructuring case and helped negotiate Private Letter Rulings with the IRS for a tax free spin off of Vistra from EFH. More recently, she helped negotiate favorable tax treatment for the Dynegy acquisition that will eliminate federal income tax of Vistra for several years by using acquired net operating losses.

Prior to her tenure at Vistra and its predecessor companies, Carla served as tax counsel in KMPG’S Washington National Tax Controversy Group where her role included representing multinational clients in proceedings before the IRS, foreign governments and handling tax litigation. She served as senior tax attorney for Electronic Data Systems, responsible for global and multistate tax planning and controversy and worked on the spin off transaction from General Motors. She was a tax attorney with ARCO Oil and Gas where she performed tax planning and controversy for the oil and gas exploration and production company. She began her legal career with Thompson & Knight LLC, a leading Texas law firm, where she discovered her passion for practicing tax law.

Carla earned a double major at Baylor Universtiy in Business and Journalism and played on the women’s varsity tennis team. She earned her Juris Doctor from Texas Tech School of Law. She serves on the Board of the educational non-profit Federal Tax Institute and was a founding member of The Board Connection, an organization supporting executive women seeking public company board seats. She was recognized as one of the 2012 “Most Powerful and Influential Women in Texas” by the National Diversity Council. Carla is a Texas native and grew up in Ft. Worth and Stephenville where the family ranch is located. She is married to her childhood sweetheart Steve and together they have two daughters and three dogs.

Wendy Salinas

Wendy Trahan Salinas is an experienced and versatile tax attorney who focuses on taxable finance and other complex business transactions. In her taxable finance practice, Wendy advises borrowers and lenders on the tax implications of domestic and cross-border financing transactions. She has extensive experience in representing both public and privately held companies on transactions including bank credit facilities, mezzanine financings, derivatives, and project financings. She advises private equity funds in connection with debt and equity investments and other private equity transactions. She also advises public companies and lenders on bankruptcy restructuring transactions.

Wendy is Co-Managing Partner of V&E’s Dallas office, Co-Chair of the Partnership Admissions Committee, and helps lead the firm’s Women’s Initiative in the Dallas office and recruiting team for the University of Virginia School of Law.


Pricing:
Members: $10 per session, or $15 to attend both sessions.
Non Members: $20 per session, or $35 to attend both sessions.
CLE Credits will be offered during both sessions.
