Susquehanna Valley Chapter: A Virtual Discussion
Join us for a Virtual Discussion with Distributed Energy Resources/Renewables Integration Panel. Representatives from PPL Electric Utilities will discuss how their organizations are preparing for the integration of more renewables onto their systems as utilities move to decarbonize. The panel will discuss the various assets companies have purchased, management systems being used and their related impact on the electric grid.

Meet the Panelists

Bashar Jarrah, Manager of Operations Engineering and Energy Resource Management at PPL Electric. Bashar has about 20 years of engineering and leadership experience, which most were spent in the electric utility business. Bashar has been at PPL for the past 18 years holding various technical and leadership positions including Asset Management, Engineering & Design, System Operations, Planning and Interconnection, Relay Protection, Standards, Research & Development, Asst Strategy, and several years spent in the field working closely with customers. Bashar holds a bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering from overseas, a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on power from Temple University in Philadelphia PA, and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) form Moravian in Bethlehem PA. Bashar is involved in several industry institutions and serves as the Chair of the Pennsylvania Energy Association T&D Committee for the past three years.

Kimberly Gauntner has been the Distribution Interconnection & Tariff Rules Supervisor at PPL Electric since the department’s creation in June 2020. Leveraging her background as a technical expert and regulatory specialist, Kim is uniquely positioned to provide insight and understanding on the opportunities and challenges of interconnecting renewable energy to the distribution grid. Prior to her current role, Kim spent seven years in Distribution System Planning studying and successfully mitigating the effects of varying load, generation and power quality to ensure safe and reliable power to all customers. Kim holds a Master of Science in Engineering Management from New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Bachelors of Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton.
