STEAM Fair

On September 28, 2019, the Utah Chapter of the Women’s Energy Network (WEN) hosted a booth at the Girl Scouts of Utah STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) fair. The STEAM fair was focused on providing hands-on activities for about 60 local girls in grades K-12. WEN volunteers walked the girls through building catapults and the science behind launching a marshmallow catapult.

President Elect, Brianna Walcott said WEN and the Girl Scouts share the same goals of promoting leadership in girls and women. It was great to see girls of all ages participating. They all seemed to enjoy learning how to make a catapult, then tweaking the design to have different results.

This event contributed to the WEN Foundation Day of Service goal of providing 2,500 hours of community service nation-wide in 2019 to celebrate their 25th anniversary.

Women Helping Women of Salt Lake City

Another example of WEN Utah at work in the community was our Lunch and Learn Event for the Junior League of Salt Lake City’s Women helping Women. Women Helping Women is a project to collect, prepare, and distribute donated professional women’s clothing. These clothes are given to women entering the workforce and who are in transition towards self-sufficiency. Clients are referred to the project by government and social service agencies. Women Helping Women has served over 17,000 women since 1996.

Items collected by WEN Utah volunteers includes suits, sweaters, slacks, shoes, blouses, skirts, cardigans, dresses, coats and more.
