Co-Presidents’ Message

Happy New Year from the D.C. Chapter of the Women’s Energy Network (WEN DC).

As we begin 2022, we look forward to another year of fun and enriching WEN DC events and programming – hopefully all in person this year!  We extend our sincere thanks to our 2021 board members, and especially our immediate past President, Mara Zimmerman, for all of the hard work, dedication, and leadership over the past year.  We also welcome our new board, and look forward to another productive year focused on supporting the professional development and advancement of women in the energy industry through relationships, networking, and education.
Special thanks to our sponsors for supporting WEN DC. Without the support of our sponsors we would be unable to provide the level and quality of programming we currently offer, including the numerous networking and professional development events hosted throughout the year. Our sponsors are critical to WEN DC’s continued growth and success, and we greatly appreciate their continued support.
Despite the ongoing challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, our chapter achieved a number of significant accomplishments over the past year.  We hosted a variety of creative virtual and in-person (mostly outdoor) networking and programming events, including several virtual events focused on health and wellness, a trivia and game night competition networking event, a walking ghost tour of Georgetown, conflict resolution training, and lively discussions with energy sector leaders like Kelly Speakes-Backman,the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy. We continued our annual commitment to honor a local philanthropy by hosting an event to learn about the mission and efforts of  STEM for Her, and providing a chapter donation to match our individual member donations. Our chapter also voted to add two new important director roles to our board – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Programming. Finally, we became the fourth WEN chapter to offer a new Executive Tier of membership, providing special programming and networking opportunities for executive-level leaders in the energy industry.

Our board and committees are hard at work planning a variety of exciting initiatives and events for our membership. We very much look forward to seeing you at our events in 2022, including our upcoming kick-off event on February 16th! Please do not hesitate to reach out to either of us to learn more about our chapter and how you can join or become more involved.
