The Women's Energy Network Greater New York City Chapter (WEN NYC) was established in October 2016 in response to the growing demand for a professional organization dedicated to women working in the energy industry throughout the New York City area.

The chapter's inaugural event set the stage for its future success, featuring the then-President of WEN National, Jeannie Gardner of Shell, and Ellen Pesch from Sidley Austin. Sponsored by DLA Piper and GE, the kickoff event brought together women from diverse professional backgrounds within the energy industry to celebrate the launch of the new chapter.

Building on the momentum of the kickoff event, WEN NYC quickly gained traction and began to flourish under the guidance of its dedicated volunteer leaders. With over 10 events held each year, WEN NYC members have access to a wide range of activities, including panel discussions, workshops, and networking receptions. These events provide valuable opportunities for members to connect with peers, exchange ideas, and stay abreast of the latest developments in the energy industry.

In addition to its regular programming, WEN NYC has formed strategic partnerships to further enhance its impact. The chapter established a mentoring alliance with Columbia University, providing mentorship opportunities for aspiring energy professionals, and a partnership with S&P Platts, securing speaking opportunities.

Today, WEN NYC boasts a diverse membership base that includes energy professionals from a wide spectrum of backgrounds, including consultants, lawyers, financial investors, utilities, start-ups, and developers. Members are employed by a variety of organizations, including legal firms, financial institutions, utilities, consultants, start-ups, and other company types.

As WEN NYC looks to the future, it remains committed to its mission of fostering networking opportunities, facilitating professional development, and promoting outreach to future energy professionals. Recognizing the city's pivotal role as an energy hub for banking, investments, and trading, the chapter continues to provide valuable resources and opportunities for its members and play a key role in shaping the future of the energy industry in the greater New York City area.
