Description

The West Virginia Chapter of the Women’s Energy Network is dedicated to developing future talent and supporting women in the energy industry. We have established a scholarship fund to support young women (seniors in high school, and college undergraduates and graduates) in West Virginia in science, technology, energy, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) seeking degrees and careers in energy related fields.  Scholarships in the amount of $1K - $5K are awarded annually based on funding availability and applicant pool. 
 

Eligibility

  • Must be a woman, a high school senior, or attending an accredited 2–4-year college or university, and reside in West Virginia.
  • Must be a STEM major with an intent to focus studies or pursue a career in an energy related field
  • Must have an average 3.0 GPA (unweighted) with proof from high school or college transcripts
  • Must plan to or be attending an accredited 2–4-year college or university
  • Must have two letters of recommendation that includes contact information for them and are not relatives. References must be 21 or older.

Application Submissions Package

Essay. Applicant must submit an original 300–500-word essay telling the selection committee about yourself, your background, and what inspires you to pursue a degree in STEM with an emphasis on energy. Limited to 300-500 words. 

Financial Need. Awards may be based on financial need conditional upon the applicant pool. Your package should include annual household income, pending and confirmed scholarships, plans to apply for FASFA, and any financial concerns or needs you have for college. 

Extracurricular Activities, Awards, Recognition & Leadership. Applicant should describe any extracurricular activities (school, athletics, volunteer/community service, part-time job, etc.) with which you are involved and any activities that demonstrate leadership and character. Limited to 10,000 characters.

Letters of Recommendation. Applicant must submit two letters of recommendation that includes contact information for them and are not relatives. References must be 21 or older. Preference given to instructors, teachers, professors, etc.

High School or College Transcripts. Applicant must submit official current transcripts. 


Notification and Presentation of Award

Winners will be contacted by the Scholarship Review Committee and acknowledged in an April 2023 award ceremony.
